Why I Started 'Perk In Progress'

Real progress demands consistent, deliberate action. You have to put yourself out there, test new approaches, connect with others, and most importantly—keep showing up.

Hey there 👋🏼

A year and a half ago, I was sitting on my couch, deciding whether to move to Chicago for my job at an awesome VC firm or go out on my own and do something I always dreamed of. Today, I'm running Advyz, a thriving company that helps founders build and organizations scale.

In this first issue of Perk In Progress, I'm sharing:

  • Why I created this newsletter (and why now)

  • What you can expect every month

  • A special welcome gift for early subscribers

🎯 WHY I STARTED THIS NEWSLETTER

Why ‘Perk In Progress’? Two reasons.

Reason #1: Building a business is exactly that—a constant work in progress.

Your company evolves. Your skills grow. The tools change. The markets shift. And that's okay. Actually, it's more than okay—it's the point.

I chose this name because it reflects not just my journey (yes, that's my last name), but the reality that every founder faces: we're all figuring it out as we go. Your business is in progress. My business is in progress. Our skills are in progress. And this incredible community we're building? Definitely in progress.

But here's the key: real progress demands consistent, deliberate action. You have to put yourself out there, test new approaches, connect with others, and most importantly—keep showing up. That's why I'm building this newsletter. While it's my way of sharpening my storytelling and extracting insights from my journey, it's also about lighting the path for others who are where I once stood. Every issue is a chance to share what I'm learning, document what's working (and what isn't), and create the resource I wish I had when starting out. Because building a business shouldn't feel like navigating in the dark. If my experiences, mistakes, and discoveries can help even one person take that first step or make a better decision, then this newsletter is doing exactly what it's meant to do.

Progress isn't about perfection. It's about taking one step forward, then another, then another. Sometimes those steps are confident strides, sometimes they're stumbles—but they're all moving you forward.

Reason #2: Business advice is either too vague to be useful ("follow your passion!") or so complex it's paralyzing ("here's a 47-step framework for success!").

I learned this the hard way when building Advyz. I spent countless hours searching for straightforward answers to seemingly simple questions:

  • What tools do I actually need to start?

  • How do I know if my idea is good?

  • What should I focus on first?

The answers were either buried in 2-hour YouTube videos or hidden behind expensive courses.

That's why I'm starting Perk In Progress.

This newsletter is your monthly guide to building a business without the fluff. Every month, you'll get the honest truth of what it’s like to build a business, practical insights, tech recommendations, tools and resources that actually work (what’s worth paying for vs. what’s not), and more.

No theory. No jargon. Just clear, actionable advice and insights from someone who's in the trenches with you.

💡 WHAT YOU'LL GET EVERY MONTH

Each newsletter includes three core sections:

  • Big Idea: One key concept that can move you or your business forward

  • Tech Spotlight: Honest reviews of tools, resources, and strategies I personally use and recommend

  • Founder's Corner: Real talk, straight from me. The good, the bad, and everything in between of building and running a business.

I'll also share quick wins, templates (I have a whole library), and opportunities I discover along the way that I think could help you on your journey.

🛠️ RESOURCES I LOVE

Speaking of tools, here are three newsletters that have genuinely helped me grow Advyz:

(No affiliate links - just genuine recommendations that regularly help or inspire me!)

⭐️ BEFORE YOU GO

I can’t thank you enough for pressing the subscribe button. This newsletter will be a work in progress, so thank you for being along for the ride. I’m excited for this new chapter and hope you are too!

Next month, I'll share the full story of how I built Advyz, including the mistakes I made so you can avoid them.
